"Harmonies in Stone"                                  32 x 38

The New Year is here and a chance to paint many more paintings.  I can't wait!  2012 brings many opportunities to my Art world and I would like to share a few of them with you.

I have been invited by the curator of the Bakersfield Museum of Art to mount a show of my paintings.  The show opens December of 2012 and will run through March of the following year.   The Plein Air Painters of America voted me in as their new Vice President.   I am working with a wonderful new Gallery in South Carolina.   For the new year, I have workshops in three different locations: Texas, California, Hawaii.   These are a few of the highlights that make the winter days in my studio very exciting for me.

The Helena Fox Gallery of Charleston, South Carolina and I have started working together. I really enjoy going to South Carolina.  Helena Fox is an honest and very well-respected artist representative. I very much look forward to working with her. Painting Tip: Outdoor Painter

A thought on the "studio" for the outdoor painter.  The studio is a place you can stretch your creative muscle. On location you are on task from the moment you arrive and set up.  While in the studio you can think and experiment more.
This is not to say you should kick back and slow down but you can experiment with your marks and application of color. As long as you work with propose and with energy it will show in the finished work. I like to try out a new thought on application inside the studio. After I feel I can use it effectively,  I then use the method on location.

Happy Painting,
John Cosby
